Combining implants, crowns and veneers in one plan
Many plans mix treatments. The order they are done in shapes the result and the number of trips.
A mixed plan usually runs: check-up and gum treatment, extractions, implants, whitening of natural teeth, then crowns and veneers matched to the final shade, with implant crowns fitted on the second trip. Ask one clinic to plan the whole case so implants and front teeth fit together, and ask for a timetable covering every trip.
A typical UK patient in Antalya does not need just one thing. A common plan might be two implants at the back, a few crowns, veneers on the front teeth and whitening for the rest. Each treatment has its own timing, and they affect each other. Planning them together gives a better result than doing them one by one.
The usual order
- Examination, X-rays and 3D scan. The full picture first.
- Gum treatment and cleaning, if needed. Everything else depends on healthy gums.
- Extractions of teeth that cannot be saved.
- Implant surgery, with any bone graft.
- Whitening of the natural teeth that will stay visible.
- Crowns and veneers on natural teeth, matched to the whitened shade.
- Implant crowns, usually on the second trip, matched to the rest.
Your dentist may change this for your case. The principle is that foundations come before finishes, and shade is decided once.
How the trips fit together
Implants usually need two trips. That gives two ways to organise the cosmetic work:
- Finish the front teeth on trip one, then match the implant crowns to them on trip two. Good if the implants are at the back and out of sight.
- Do everything visible on trip two, so all the new teeth are made together. Good if implants are near the front, or if you want one consistent result.
Ask the clinic which it recommends for you and why. See one trip or two.
Shade and shape
Whitening changes natural teeth only; the NHS notes it does not change crowns, veneers or implants. So whiten first, then match. See whitening before crowns or veneers. Shape matters too: implant crowns, ordinary crowns and veneers should look like one set of teeth, not three.
The bite
When several teeth change at once, the way they meet changes. A mixed plan should include time for bite checks and adjustments, ideally on more than one day. Ask how many adjustment appointments are planned.
One clinic or two?
It can be tempting to have implants at one clinic and veneers at another. Usually it is better to keep one plan at one clinic, so:
- one team is responsible for how everything fits together;
- one guarantee covers the result;
- records stay in one place.
Choose a clinic that is strong across all the treatments you need. Our rankings show how each clinic does for implants, full-arch and cosmetic work separately, and choosing a clinic for implants versus veneers explains why they differ.
Questions for a mixed plan
- In what order will each treatment be done, and why?
- Which treatments happen on each trip?
- When will the shade be chosen, and will I see a mock-up?
- How many bite adjustment appointments are planned?
- Which guarantee covers each part?
- What is the total price for everything, across both trips?
Guarantees across a mixed plan
Each part may have its own period. At Precious Dental, our top pick: implants with abutment, lifetime; crowns, bridges and smile makeovers, 5 years; laminate veneers, 3 years; whitening, 1 year. See the guarantee page for conditions.
An example mixed plan across two trips
An illustration of how one clinic might organise a common combination: two implants at the back of the lower jaw, four crowns on worn upper teeth, and whitening of the remaining natural teeth.
| When | Treatment |
|---|---|
| Trip one, early days | Examination, X-rays, 3D scan, cleaning, final plan; extraction if needed; two implants placed |
| Trip one, later days | Whitening of natural teeth; shade recorded once settled; the four upper crowns prepared, made and fitted |
| At home | Implants heal over a few months |
| Trip two | Implant crowns made to match the shade chosen on trip one; bite checked across all the new teeth |
A different dentist might prefer to leave the upper crowns until trip two so all the new teeth are made together. Neither is wrong; ask which approach your clinic recommends for you and why.
Common combinations and what to watch
| Combination | Points to discuss |
|---|---|
| Implants plus front veneers | Whether the veneers wait for the implant crowns, so shade and shape match |
| Crowns plus whitening | Whitening first; shade matching after it settles |
| Full arch on one jaw, natural teeth on the other | Matching the shade and shape of the new arch to the remaining teeth; whether those teeth need any treatment |
| Replacing old crowns plus new veneers | Making all the visible new teeth in one batch so they look like a set |
| Gum treatment plus anything else | Gums first, sometimes with a short wait before other work |
The total price for a mixed plan
A mixed plan often has more lines than a single treatment, and they may fall across two trips. Ask for one document with every item, its price and which trip it belongs to. Ask too which items might change after the 3D scan. Our guide to comparing two quotes sets out the lines to check, and package or itemised price explains how to compare different pricing styles.
Is everything needed?
Larger plans deserve a careful look. For each tooth, ask what would happen if it were left alone or treated more simply. A worn tooth may suit bonding rather than a crown; a slightly darker tooth may suit whitening rather than a veneer. A UK dentist can give a second opinion on a written plan before you travel. GOV.UK advises discussing treatment abroad with your UK dentist first.
What the NHS covers at home
The NHS notes that most of the treatments on its dental treatments page, such as fillings, crowns, bridges and root canal treatment, are usually available on the NHS, while whitening, implants and veneers usually are not. If part of your plan is available on the NHS at home, for example a filling or gum treatment, you might choose to have that part done in the UK first. See the NHS dental costs page for the bands.
Records to keep from a mixed plan
- The final plan, showing what was done to each tooth.
- Implant brand, model, size and position for every implant.
- The material and shade of the crowns and veneers.
- X-rays and scans from before and after.
- Guarantee terms for each part.
If a single crown or veneer ever needs replacing, the shade and material records let a dentist match it to the rest.
Comparing clinics for a mixed plan
Look at each clinic's scores for every treatment in your plan, not just one. The full list shows implants, full-arch and cosmetic scores together, and each clinic file lists its guarantees by treatment.
Seeing the result before it is permanent
For plans that change the front teeth, ask for a mock-up or trial smile before any tooth is prepared, and a try-in of the new teeth before they are fixed. Look at them in daylight, while talking and smiling. It is much easier to change a shape or shade at the try-in than after fitting.
Getting a plan
Send Precious Dental an X-ray and a few photos of your smile, and tell us what you would like to change. A dentist will reply with a written plan covering every treatment and every trip, and you can compare it with any other clinic using the compare tool.
Common questions
Can I have implants and veneers on the same trip?
Implant surgery and veneers can sometimes be done in the same visit, but implant crowns usually wait for the second trip. Your dentist decides the order.
Should veneers wait until implant crowns are fitted?
Often the front teeth are finished at the same time as the implant crowns, so everything matches in shade and shape. Ask your dentist.
Why does gum health come first?
Crowns, veneers and implants all depend on healthy gums. Gum problems are usually treated before anything else.
Is one clinic better than two for a mixed plan?
Usually yes. One team planning everything is more likely to get the bite, shape and shade right, and one guarantee covers the whole result.
